Do we focus too much money on entertainment ?
If we spent the same amount of money on helping others in less fortunate situations that we do on making movies, making records, funding tours, funding movie openings, funding actors salaries, funding all the other things that go into the entertainment industry (that in my opinion, are mostly a waste), on helping the world be a better place for the next, lets say, three to five years, it would do more good in the world. What are your thoughts on this ?
Answer:
i find it interesting that you left out sports..
big time sports figures/stars
they end up making more than an famous actor/actress overall
and consider Oprah...she is a billionaire...and like most of those that are "rich" and "famous" they tend to focus their attention and money in the direction of those less fortunate over seas. Strange when there are so many here within the borders of the United States going without and dealing with many of the same issues...yet somehow they believe those out of this Country need it more or that a child over seas would somehow benefit more from their help.
Yes, we shold help more.
Yes, we should scale back on the money we spend.
Yes, entertainment is VERY important for us human beings.
We need to relax and recharge...
but we could do that by playing a little more with our kids, especially sports, which is good exercise.
We could make crafts out of materials we already have, the way I do at home.
Things liek that could change the balance of money that goes round, but keep us emotionally healthy.
I think we need to get rid of credit cards, then those high salaries. Put people in the same group- none better than the rest. Everyone contributes in some manner (the young more than the older or legitimately disabled, of course) to provide. Everyone is involved in recycling and preserving what natural things are left.
Yes, I could live without new movies for 5 years, if the end result would be better living situations for the less fortunate and needy people.
duh...ya think?
Lets say christians could help others but not eat-others would not get much help. Our enjoyment of life is a result of how happy we are. Being selfish is part of life-like eating, sleeping, studing...are these a waist? To much Focus? how about CEO's wages?
Love yourself. Have fun. GO MAKE YOURSELF MONEY
You're right, but first people should spend less on entertainment so they can get out of DEBT! Stop using credit cards.
When you have money again, then help people with it.
Supply & Demand.
Yes, there is a HUGE demand for entertainment. Additionally, this is fueled by the governments needs to passify the citizens; creating more demand. Where there is demand, there are those who will supply the fix for the demand. The key is what's being demanded (hope, anger, fear, happiness, love, porno, humor, ect-ect-ect)
Helping the less fortunate comes mainly from charitable organizations and religions. Since the millinium, we're seeing a rise of these social do-gooders. There marketing up and getting more ppl to supply help for those who need the help. Mr. & Mrs. Gates (and their foundation) seem to be an outward sign of the trend of focusing on those in poverty. So too are celebrities like Leonardo Di Capprio & Brangolina (Brad & Angolia).
Some movies/entertainment bring light and demand for curing to the public. Additionally, movies often bring in 'Hope' into hopless situations. Take the supply of 'Hope' out of the society, and you'll be overwhelmed with 'Disparity'.
I wish the news brough more 'hope' instead of focusing on 'dooms day' stuff... but they won't.
In short, the winds are changing, hopefully 4 the better.
Different people have different preferences and prefer to do different things with their time and money. Learning that and accepting that is part of growing up.
If you want to be an evangelist and convert people to think like you do, more power to you, just don't bother me.
You cannot stop people spending money on entertainment, because historically the value of money and richness was measured in terms of how much money people spend on entertainment. So its deeply embedded in peoples' psychi..
One alternative is not to depend on others to entertain us. If people get back to having interests in art, pottery, sculpting etc...each one would have his/her own nice time which we can call entertainment.
But you see...there are millions of people whose livelihood depends on that money you spend on entertainment. So I would rephrase your question to "How should the money on entertainment be equally distributed to people who contributed it rather than just a few"
