Why is marriage on the back burner ??

Answer:
Most marriages are based on 'idealism', rather than reality.
The 'perfect' girl finds the 'perfect' boy, both are too young to know themselves completely, much less make a lifetime choice of partner. Sex hormones hurry the process up.
Five years later, the 'perfect' girl realizes that the 'perfect' boy has defects and vice versa, the babies are screaming, the finances are failing, and the inlaws are totally and simply not what they pretended to be. Reality sets in...other companions, possibilities and choices become apparent---.and .. there is the inevitable failure, separation and divorce. That's life.

Historically, societal pressure to marry was normal and generally accepted for religious, 'family' and economic reasons, but in fact, the practice has not evolved and has left only one reasonable choice for our contemporary society--which now displays totally abysmal divorce statistics--and that is to develop a new norm as standard, where people live together, explore the relationships properly in a mature, realistic way, delay starting a family, make sound observations, and then ---decide to marry or not.
There is little incentive these days for people to get married. Women are educated and financially independant and men are frightened of being taken to the cleaners.
It is ridiculous to think that you can make a lifelong choice for a partner before you are in your mid-thirties. The changes that people go through in their twenties deny the responsible ability to select someone with whom they can be happy for the rest of their lives.

I'm not sure this is the reason that fewer are marrying, but it certainly is far more responsible. Seeing as people don't seem to want to work at lowering the divorce rate in the country by working on their marriages, it would appear that the only way to reduce it is to stay away from the institution in the first place!
personally, I am going thru a divorce and I have already racked up a bill over 600.00. and to get married (just going to the justice of the peace was 40.00.
its cheaper to get in but not to get out.
Some people are still trying to find that perfect person, but honestly there is no perfect person. there is nothing in the world that is perfect, and if you think that it is, it will not stay perfect forever.
i think that now days, women and men have much more to live for than what it was back in the day, where you got married, had a good, or decent job, and had babies.
now this is not a priority.
youve got women and men who cheat on each other, women who dont knwo who the father of thier kids are, our society is totally screwed up.
its cheaper financially and sometime emotionally not to get married.
I know if I could go back in time, i wouldnt have gotten married.
I think that marriage is only like that for people who are not happy with the relationship that they are in. Also, someone who is trying to make it work and the other one does not acknowledge it. Sometimes no matter how hard one tries to make things work, they dont. Maybe that person is just not the one for you. Sometimes it is hard to accept that fact, but there is someone out there for everyone. Hopefully some of this helps.
Divorce should be free. The act of getting married should cost $50,000 or more. Cash. I got married young. We had several children. Then cheating, arguing, fighting, mistrust, anger, hurt, etc, etc. I lost everything and had to start over. Being single, getting the career where it needs to be. That seems to be the way to go until later in life.
Because security is on the front burner cooking up the new deal.( meal) no place to hide kind of thing.
