Is there an agreed international plan for dealing with population growth before it becomes unsustainable?

Are solutions like China's one-child rule inevitably going to be adopted by more countries? Is it an ethical rule or more/less ethical than alternatives?

Answer:
It is not really an international issue. Population growth within a country, is an issue for that country. There are plans for each country, controlled by the politicians/rulers/dictators of that country.

Internationally, population growth, mortality and other international population statistics are monitored by the World Health Organisation.

Each country has specific population issues. Those who monitor can influence individual governing bodies, but beyond that it is up to each country to adopt policies suitable to its planned future.

China's rapid economic growth rate per capita has a lot to do with population control. It is a ruthless and strict regime, but very effective. Population control is only one side of the equation, but an important one.

The ethics behind restricting population depends on your view of the future. Do we need a larger world population than we currently have, and will we benefit from this? I somehow doubt that we need any more humans on earth, however we do need replacements to maintain stability.

Note that some countries have a declining population. This is not because of population growth policies, but more a specific issue within that country.
Yes it's called war, and it works
You may not like it but it is a fact
The issue does not require interference. Evolution and nature ensures population optimization. To explain here is an example: let's take the extreme case of 100 bollion people in the world. people can not survive as there is not enough food in the world. The result many die and population redcues significanlty reaching new balance.
It's like demand and supply in economics.
Although in the UK the population is growing fast, elsewhere in the world (not China) the population isn't so healthy, therefor it kinda evens it out. It just seems that most people come to settle on our small island. One alternative could be to move people around for even distribution on the globe and stop more people coming in. The general population in the UK has tripled in just 5 years.
There has always been an international plan, it is called WAR. No. China's rule is totally unethical, and immoral. The worse thing about that rule is that it conflicts with Chinese culture, in Chinese culture male children are preferred above females. In most cases the female children are abandoned, placed in orphanages, if they become sick, they let them die, they are sold into slavery, etc., etc. There are better ways - but they need to figure them out in a DEMOCRATIC manner.
many country's have SAM Cain of population growth
SAM country's pays the family a lot of money to Mack more kits. Greece is one of them.many European country's are depopulated.and that is a big problem
I think its less ethnical, and i think that that rule will be adopted by more countries. The weird thing is that always the poor families choose to have more than 1 child. Thats bad in a certain way because 1st of all the family is poor so they cannot afford to maintain more than 1 child in an adequate way. I know that may sound a bit cold and unsensitive but its true. The rule should be adopted by other countries to prevent this from happening, for the children will suffer from hunger and probably a bad education if they cant be maintained properly.
Most countries have gov't agencies that monitors, predicts, their population.

Too few people is not good. Too much is not good either. The agency that monitors the population comes out with demographics, they break down the age of their nations population.

That's why China had a one child rule they didn't want to be over populated, over population can drive an economy to poverty. China is not the only country with population control policy in place, theirs appear to be harsh but it worked. I think Singapoer had something similar. Christian countries resort to education, by educating their people on the effects of having too much kids or educating them on how to use family planning methods, they control the sudden surge of population.

If i remember correctly, a decade ago or until now, in germany they even pay you if you have a son because a son will help increase population.

New Zealand right now is experiencing a problem in their citizenry, they have a void. Population is too old to work, and too young to work, so they are now opening up their country for immigrants to fill in the void. Canada had a similar situation before.

Funny how it sounds but this is reality.
I think honestly- that China's one child policy is the least evil than the alternatives of starvation, disease and war.

Historically the human animal, along with every other animal has succumbed to population starvation from popualtion explosions.

As China and India's economy increases, the globe's finite resources will have further demand- no increase in supply is possible thus we will have a permanent under-class of below severe poverty-stricken people. Already this is evident in India, China and also Indonesia.
One could argue well that it already exists in the US too.

Future's not looking too bright if you're unlucky at birth.

EDIT- I wanted to point out thaz Indonesia has a population policy of education and a campaign called "Two is enough" and has recently signed an MOU with China on fertility control technology.

I remember India had a campaign for vasectomies- but it appears that it along with any population control seems to have fallen by the wayside.
Currently its' pop growth is above China's.

Isn't it perverse logic how the poorest breed most?
There is no easy answer to this, there ar e so many arguments for and against and there is no one politician brave enough to say anything about it
I'm not aware of anything being agreed, but i read somewhere on the net of a earlier president or prime minister saying, As contraception is obviously not going to work we will have to have a mass cull. What a pleasant man.not.
