Names of great Economist?

Details of the great Economists

Answer:
the four most famous economists are adam smith (founder of capitalism and writer of the wealth of nations) karl marx (founder of communism and writer of the communist manifesto) john maynard keynes (founder of the keynesian school of economics) and milton friedman (founder of the chicago school of economics)
apart from those a few other famous economists include
cantillon (who supposedly set the bases upon which adam smith based capitalism)
thomas mun (the first economist who was a merchant for teh british east india company)
frderik hayek (founder of the austrian school of economics)
robert solow (created the solow growth model)
Well he wasnt really an economist, but John Nash was a mathematical genius who came up with the mathematical formula that became the foundation of all economics and world economy's throughout the world today.
Adam Smith he wrote "the wealth of nations"
For modern day economists, you could list those that have won the Nobel Prize in economics. Obviously this list would not include the great older economists such as Adam Smith and Karl Marx.
Well, I am not sure about that. John Marshall is the first economist who gave us modern economics that most people see in economics classes, with all the demand curves, supply curves etc... He didn't invent any of them, but he put it all together with similiar math, notation and world view. Adam Smith actually lacked marginal analysis, which was first illustrated by Jevons.

But take any issue, and you can go back in time and find elements in Plato, Aristotle, the Scholastics, the Physiocrats, the Mercantilists and Classical economists. Nash was a great mathematician, but he made mathematical ideals already made by Cournout, and a little bit by Dupuit before him. It terms of dymanic business cycles, Slutsky was one of the first to bring dynamic calculus to Economics and made the way for many mathematicians during the Great Depression to make economic contributions.
I agree with all the names others have mentioned, though I think the stuff about Nash creating the foundation of all economics throughout the world today is a little over-stated.

I was a bit surprised no one mentioned John Keynes, whose Keynesian economics, though largely discredited today, still has had a major impact on the discipline of economics.
Milton Friedman was the last most influential economist ever and he died last year.
Milton Friedman. Developed the idea that with enough money you could break the laws of physics. True story.

Awesome jew, indeed...
The best book on this subject is "The Wordly Philosophers" by Robert Heilbroner. Arguably, the greatest economist (free market) is Adam Smith. David Ricardo is a strong contender for the theory of comparative advantage. Marx has been mentioned but he is a better critic than an economist. John Maynard Keynes is the most influential of the 20th century. People overlook Thorstein Veblen but he is a personal favorite. Milton Friedman has been mentioned already.
