Do the things we own really just own us?

we spend our time making money to have things we don't have time to spend with because we are making money. apart from that, we identify who we are based upon the things we have.

Answer:
Optimally the things a person possess reflect their values, unfortunately,or fortunately, they often reflect other peoples values, most items that constitute property reflect the aesthetics of those who made them and their environment, in some way shape or form stuff is characterized by inner motivation and understanding of behavior, or function.
Not really. Your opinion.
If you are driven by money and material objects, just having them would not be enough. you would want the lifestyle also..
you choose the style and try to live every part of it.
I don't identify who I am off the things I have. If you didn't work you would starve that is true though. So if you don't want to work that's fine with me
