Nope...unless they're handicapped with no family to help tem financially and can't get a job because of their disabilities...bla bla bla...if they're just plain lazy who wanna get easy money then HELL NO
do what you want, but know that whatever you believe in, goodwill is the best quality in humankind. many great things have happened from people giving to others, and it always seems like it always comes back around. it doesn't matter what the beggar does with the money, it's the fact that you helped someone out!
Why should I give this guy money...He is just going to waste it on booze or drugs..wait a min...thats what I am going to waste it on.
Honestly...I believe charity starts at home. Make sure you can take care of yourself and then you can help others.
It is a hard decision on who to help. I have seen plenty of scammers who come up with a story and work an area with the car out of gas and pregnant wife at home story. Only to see them again 3 weeks later in another area working the same story.
That kinda makes it harder to give when they could be lieing. So I usually make them "work" for it...I will say tell me a joke or do an impression. even if it is bad I reward it. But just handing out the money...I say no
I put myself in the position of What would Jesus do. The answer is, YES.
I have, in the past, bought food/coffee for a homeless person and went back to a location to give this person canned food for her as I didn't have extra cash to help out.
Sadly, there are individuals who don't need the help but prey upon emotions of good natured people.
One of the best solutions I've heard is (If you can afford it), keep a few gift certificates in your wallet and give them to individuals in need of a meal.
I do my part in accordance with whatever cash/spare change I have on me that day.
