The goal of maintenance is to maintain. To keep the aircraft in the same condition every time you fly it, oil, spark plugs, gaskets, sensors, etc. An aerospace engineer's job is to add something new to the aircraft. Like a new airframe to the model line or a streamline antenna to an existing plane.
