Who was the most influential Architect of the twentieth century?
Answer:
The most influential would be the one who most influenced other architects and buildings around the world, in particular important substantial buildings of which Frank Lloyd Wright only designed a couple. Wright is probably the best generally known architect particularly in the US but I would think the most influential is probably Le Courbesier who changed the way architects thought about form and material and was part of the start of the modernist movement. Its very difficult to say who had the most infleunce over a hundred years but in the late 20th century Renzo Piano, Frank Gehry and Norman Foster designed a number of significant buildings that stretched the limits of building technology. Architects in the later part of the 20th century probably have more world wide influence due to the international nature of architecture and the speed that information can be disseminated.
This is really a question of opinion and there are reasons for and against a number of architects.
Frank Lloyd Wright. Frank Lloyd Wright was born on June 8, 1867 and died on April 9, 1959. He influenced the design of American buildings and structures. He practiced what is known as organic architecture, an architecture that evolves naturally out of the context. Fallingwater, one of his designs, is now a prominent museum in rural southwestern Pennsylvania, 50 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. It was built in 1935 as a vacation home for the Kaufmanns, because it rests OVER a waterfall in Bear Run. Also see the Darwin D. Martin House built in Buffalo, NY in 1904. The Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan built in 1915 (demolished in 1968) was built to withstand earthquakes. Frank Lloyd Wright is also known for stain glass window work.
