Which field would be better-mechanical or aerospace engineer?
Answer:
You will have more opportunities upon graduation with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jobs requiring an Aero E. degree tend to be limited, in both quantity and location. The aerospace industry is cyclical as well, so there are good years for grads as well as bad. Also, the coursework overlaps somewhat so it would be fairly easy for a Mechanical Engineer to get in the aerospace industry by specializing in structures, fluid flow, or heat transfer for example.
I have a degree in Aerospace engineering and after graduating into an industry downturn, wound up designing refrigeration systems for a living. As a wise engineer once told me, "The degree just means your trainable."
Go with mechanical with an emphasis in aerospace.
Definitely go with mechanical. Aerospace engineers get their degree from the mech engr school anyway. It will give you more options if no aerospace jobs are available at the time, but one can always change to that later. If you were to be laid off, other mech engr jobs can be had and it will be less likely you'll wind up working at a university or worse.
You would have a better chance in finding a job in mechanical. I had the same question when I went to college but mine was between aerospace and electrical. I went with electrical and it was definately easier to find multiple companies to work for. You will have less to choose from in aerospace, though, it's an awesome field! Good luck!
