What is core construction versus shell construction?
Answer:
I believe the terms will refer to how a structure is designed to carry whatever loads are imposed on it. A prime example of "shell" construction is a chicken egg. The load- yolk and surrounding 'white'- are supported by the calcium shell. The shell provides all the support for the internal load. A core example could be an automobile wheel and tire. The core wheel supports and provides reaction structure for forces that are applied to the tire, which, without the supporting core (the wheel) would simply collapse and be useless. Many structures are combinations. Such as an airplane wing. The interior of the wing (its core) provides the majority of the strength, however, the skin panels are attached to the core structure such that they also add strength to the overall wing. Honeycomb panels are prime examples of combinations. If the shell panels fail the core structure will not be adequate. If the core structure fails, the panels will not be adequate.
the most basic answer is core(like an apple core)is inside, shell is the shell of the building and all of the main components to assist the shell.
