Which is more survivable? A Building Question?

If a building collapses, is one more likely to survive from falling from the top floor and falling into the floors below, being on the middle floor or being on the bottom floor with the remaining floors falling on top of you?

Answer:
Too many factors. Suppose there is a fire in the middle floors. You would always want to be below the fire, so you can get the phuque out.

If there is no fire, and the building is just crumbling, it might be best to be near the top and ride it down. I guess that would depend on how many floors. It would be hard to survive the ride down if the building had 112 floors, but you might ride down if it were only four floors.

So it would depend. As Mr. Miagi says in _Karate Kid_: "Best way avoid punch--be somewhere else."
If we're talking about a skyscraper, none of those is "better," per se. They all stink.

If we're talking about a 2 or 3 story house, I'd have to guess the higher floor, because a) the actual fall isn't that far, and b) there's isn't much material above you that could smoosh you
