Concrete casting and rain?
Is there any way to proceed with the casting, or do i have to stop altogether?
Answer:
Concrete can be cast in the rain as long as it is protected from direct impact of the raindrops during the first day. Concrete will set well even under water, in fact it is important to keep it wet during the first week to prevent shrinkage and overheating which will lead to cracking, just remember to put a plastic sheet over it to keep the rain from actually hitting the soft surface to much. Concrete sets by the saturation of bonds on the lime in the cement, and was invented by the Romans over two thousand years ago, it continues getting harder for ever.
Stretch a tarp over the work is about the only way to proceed. even if you stop, a hard rain will destroy the job both by making it impossible to finish and by adding excess water to the mix mand washin the cement out of the concrete.
