when you touch your car that is parked under these powerlines you can feel it. the voltages (per my multi meter) range from 100V to 500volts. is it safe to be parked there. would it affect a pace maker? would it be worse if it were foggy or rainy? I just can't see that it could be good for you even for the short time you would be there. are there any restrictions on how close you can be to the lines? they are 19' from the parking lot. if a semi went under them could it arc to the trailor? thanks.
Answer:
THERE ARE RECOMMENDED SAFE DISTANCE FROM GROUND TO THE HIGH VOLTAGE LINES IN NEC 70 / NFPA 70 safety code . Higher the voltage , greater the gap to be maintained . For 345 KV lines it must be above 9 m as far as I remember but not sure .
Bottom of the lines fall under the right of the way and should be kept clear from all encrambrances .
As the H.V lines produce impressive electromagnetic fiel, it may affect any elctrical / electronic equipment nearby
