Circular saw blades?
can a circular saw even be used to cut metal? what about pvc pipe? thanks!
Answer:
It will cut both. For thin metal or tin, turn the blade backwards or buy a metal cutting blade. They cost little and cut better than turning blade around.
Safety note: As "mapdaplanet" stated, cutting pvc smells funky. Don't breath this. Polyvinylchloride, when heated hot enough, can begin to create lung scarring fumes. Just cutting it with a circular saw most likely won't, but play it safe and avoid breating this. Never burn PVC!
I have used fine tooth saw blades put on backwards to cut metal roofing
Yes, you need a different blade and yes, you can use a circular saw to cut "thin" pieces of metal.
works fine on pvc
it takes a Special kind of caw and blade to cut metal, it's called a cold cut metal saw and cost about 500 dollars up.
There are also special blades to cut through thicker metal. You can generally get them at Home Depot, Lowes or your local welding supply place, like LinWeld.
As far as cutting PVC pipe, almost any fine tooth blade will do it, you have to watch and make sure that it is cutting it though, not just melting and reforming behind your initial cut. But I'll warn you, it smells funky.
Any fine tooth blade will cut metal but they will not last long. If you're only going to cut a couple things i would just pick up a cheap blade cut the metal and trash it as it will be cheaper than buying a metal cutting blade. If you start cutting a lot of metal something like a chop saw($200) would be a better bet to buy or a bandsaw. harborfreight has a nice little horizontal bandsaw for 200 (on sale)
Just make sure to be safe cutting metal with a circular saw can be dangerous.
Anything will cut pvc but again a fine tooth would give a better finish.
Typically, a type of composite blade is used for cutting metal with a circular saw. They can be purchased at Lowe's or Home Depot. They can help you there, but they are black, and don't have teeth.
