How can I suspend materials from a 14 foot ceiling such that they can raise and lower easily?

The materials range from 2 feet to 10 in "diameter" and weigh between 1-100lbs

Answer:
You could use a block and tackle.

If you have any attic space, you could install a screw drive automatic garage door opener, mounted vertically.

It depends on how much travel you want in your system.

Important: Before attaching any system to your ceiling, be sure to calculate your loads, based upon the span and size of your ceiling structure.
Pulley and chains
Fasten a pulley to the ceiling, run a wire from the pulley to the wall, a roller wheel at the corner of the wall and ceiling, and run the wire down to a large wheel fastened to the studs in the wall that you can turn to raise or lower the object. Make sure its got a locking mechanism.
you need some kind of pulley system. either using ropes or steel chord. look at a set of venetian blinds to give you some ideas on the mechanics of raising and lowering. hope this helps, paulie.
use a pulley!!!
you can use threaded rod which comes in varies sizes and mount in the ceiling by using wall anchors either toggle bolt or drop in anchor from your local hardware store.
