Um... future career in engineering?

i'd definately like to made engineering my major in college but i want to have an interesting major. anyone got recommendations for which type i should go for that pays well but is also fun? i'm thinking mech

Answer:
Most of them pay well. Make sure you go into the curriculum plan for each branch of engineering that your college offers so you can have a small idea of what you'll be getting into. I am currently a Junior in Electrical Engineering, nothing easy. People here telling you engineering it isn't fun are ignorant. To some engineering might be boring/hard/not fun, but for others it can be fun and exciting. That is why there are different majors to chose from because not everybody likes the same type of things. Either way, be prepared to do math 24/7 if you want to go into engineering. There is a wide variety of what you can get into (electrical, mechanical, civil, industrial, etc). Like I said, you should really look each one of them up and what kind of jobs are offered for each major.so you can get an idea and decide what path suits you best. Most importantly, make sure you chose a major that you LIKE (otherwise, you will not enjoy it and you'll end up changing your major, which will lead to extending your time in college).
Engineering is not fun. Its not meant to be fun, and it isn't. It is generally a good paying career if that's all you want. It is also good for the ego if you are into that. Otherwise it is generally grinding, sedentary work at a desk most of the time.

You will deal with tight budgets, short schedules and long hours. most of the personalities in the engineering field are dead serious, easily irritated and short on charisma.

Teaching, coaching and some medical fields are among the top rewarding careers because they have a direct positive influence on other people. Studies indicate working and helping others directly tends to be the most satisfying type of work out there.

Althuogh engineering is important in the world, you just won't likely ever see a direct influence on anyone in particular.
you have to be serious if you wanna get into that. what type? what are you good at? i chose mechanical because I think that it is more challenging than other type.
depends on what u like to do, i've liked cars all my life thats y im in mechanical engineering. my dream is to work at general motors in detroit as a powertrain engineer. i would basically test and design engines to make them more efficient. but like i said it depends on you and your interest, if u like cell phones games and computers try electrical or computer engineering. if you like cars or other mechanical systems go into mechanical, if u like chemistry and science try chemical engineering or petro engineering( big money). the only advice i can give u is research the fields and find whats best for u and get ready for all types of math. lol

--good luck
Regarding the first answerer, he needs to take a laxative. Sure, engineering can be serious because it does effect people's lives. Your job is what you make of it.

I have met all kinds of people in engineering. But that probably goes for any profession.

As for sitting behind a desk all day, that is for lazy engineers. Any real good engineer would go out and kick some dirt around. But no one is going to tell you to do that. You have to decide for yourself to get off your butt and go out there.

You should pick the field that most interests you. If you like electronic stuff, then go electrical. If you like machinery and gas/fluid flow, then go mechanical. If you like kicking dirt and being around construction equipment, then go civil.
I'm a mechanical design engineer and i love what I do. You use the laws of physics and some creativity to make things that never existed before. (With the help of a couple of great machinists.)

Sure, there are hum-bug parts of the job, such as the test plan I'm writing now, but overall it is great. The money is good, and you're treated like an adult as long as you know your stuff.
