What are different fields of an electronic technician?

im thinking about going to college to become an electronic technician.i want to build military parts, but i dont know what the proper name for it is. ( im 15 by the way) =) thx

Answer:
There are a variety of specialties for techs, such as calibration, power electronics, R&D, medical, aviation, etc etc. and most can be either in-house or in the field. In general, field service pays better, particularly if you're highly-skilled in theory and have an unusually-good knack for making anything work. Medical x-ray and CAT scanner field service were pretty good for me for quite awhile.

But if I could do it all over again, I'd definitely go for at least a BSEE - techs top out both monetarily and professionally, the paper ceiling (as in, not having a REAL degree) can be pretty tough to crack. I'm in school now for just that reason, at the tender age of 50. I'm very knowledgable, can design pretty much anything I want, but have a tough time being taken seriously no matter how many minor miracles I pull off. Damn college boys. so I agree with the poster at the top, go for engineering if you can.

Have you done any study of electronics so far? Most people into the field started into it as a hobby while your age or younger - I started at about age 10. You need a very mathematical and logical brain to excel in this area, along with the capacity to "get things done".

Feel free to email me if you want to chat more about it, I've got 30 years into it.
Elec..Technician versus electrical engineer are vast different is like cleaning toilets versus building them. so reach for the second.
