Is gold a good conducter of electricity?

idk if i should choose gold wire or standard copper wire

Answer:
The best conductor there is known to man.
Computer manufactures use it due to the speed. If they are not fast enough, somebody else will be. For most other projects or designs it is a luxury and the benefit will never overcome cost.
Real gold is a far better conductor, but melts a lot easier. What is it for ? Copper is usually best for most jobs considering the cost of gold. It was used in early computers but i don't think it is anymore.
Edit: quick google shows 24k gold only slightly lower melting point to copper. Well there you go !
gold is an excellent conductor of both heat and electricity
yes...your best electronic equipment will use gold.
Gold is a fine conductor of electricity, but not as good as copper, or silver. The reason it is sometimes used for electrical contacts is because it does not oxidise. Choose copper wire, or in critical applications silver, for the best conductivity.
Yes, gold is an excellent conductor and, very importantly, it doesn't corrode so the contact is always 'good.'

It is the most malleable and ductile of metals so it can be drawn into *very* fine wires and won't work harden.

Resistivity:
best - silver = 15.87 (n-ohm/m)
#2 - copper = 16.78
#3 - gold = 22.14

It also conducts heat away form the source better than many materials:
best - diamond = 900 to 2320 (W/m*k)
#2 - silver = 429
#3 - copper = 401
#4 - gold = 318

Obviously, the big drawback is *cost* with gold at about $650/troy ounce ($21/gram) it would be cheaper to use copper wire.
It certainly is! but only low current conductance due to it's low melting point. Have a good day.
copper is a better conductor than gold..so even if the cost were the same..why? the best is silver...but only used in very specialized projects.
