we have a project and we have to make a can crusher using simple machines such as levers, wheel and axle etc... does anyone know something simple oour group can do that doesn't cost a lot??

You could design a pulley that lifts up a 50lb plate (the things they put on dung bells), and have it fall on a soda can. If you can't find a 50 lb plate, just use something else that's heavy, like a rock or Anvil-like object. Oh yeah, it's also a good idea to place the cans on a firm and strong surface, otherwise you could damage a perfectly good carpet or wooden floor ;-)
Hinge a 3 foot piece of 2x4 at one end. Place a can 1 foot from the hinge. Press down on the free end. Squashed can.
