How to make a short wave radio?

I want to build a short wave radio from the bottom up. I am looking for list of parts and a diagram that I can follow ( I am not an electrician) Thanks Linda

Answer:
To avoid *becoming* an electrician, it's very helpful to start with a pre-manufactured circuit board and pre-wound coils. Ten-Tec makes this cute little kit -- not hard to assemble, and provides some decent information on how it operates. Look specifically at the 1054 at the following link where the manual's contents are available along with some photos of someone actually building one of these:

Their current offerings can be found at

Have a look at their model 1054 and 1253. The 1253 is a little more sophisticated than the 1054, but both are a good beginning for someone just getting into the hobby.
