Convert painting mils to inches?

When measuring the thickness of paint or coatings the units of measure is called mils. What is the conversion factor fto obtain inches?

Answer:
A mil is one thousandth of one inch, that is 0.001 inches

Similar to a milliampere is 0.001 amperes
25.4 mm = 1 inch

Since I received a bad rating, I should clarify that manufacturers call millimeters "mils" for short...
Mils are a reference to thousandth of an inch, so if your DFT (dry film thickness) is supposed to be 2.0 mils, then it would be 0.002 inches thick.
Agreed, a mil is one-thousandth of an inch, not to be confused with a millimeter.
1" = 1,000mil.
It's the kind of measurement for which a "Micrometer" is used.
