General purpose valve w/ "Max water pressure 500 PSI" - would 500 psi of air be safe as well?

It's a general purpose valve, so I know it can handle air, but no air pressure max is given ...

Answer:
Most times a valve is rated for 500 psi, it is also stamped WOG, meaning Water, Oil, and Gas at room temperature. Compressed air is a gas usually reasonably close to room temperature, so it would be acceptable if the valve body has 500 WOG stamped on it.

Never use a 500 psi WOG rated valve on a 500 psi steam system, because 500 psi staurated steam is at extremely high temperature and will cause the valve to fail.

Most quality general purpose valves rated for 500 psi water pressure could handle the same pressure compressed air, but if you don't know for sure it's better to ask the manufacturer. 500 psi compressed air has enough energy that it could potentially hurt someone if they were next to the valve when it fails.
isnt 500 psi general to anything?... i mean 500 psi of air = 500 psi of water..
What weighs more 500 pounds of air, or 500 pounds of water?
