What are the voltage bands for MV, HV and EHV in the uk?
The IEE regs define ELV and LV but not the rest. Need to know what range e.g MV is 1000V A.C to ____ V A.C, and HV is _______ V to ____V. Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!!
Answer:
Generally,
LV - generally 415V but goes to 1000V
MV - 1KV (1000V) to about 6KV
HV - 6KV - about 132KV
EHV - Distribution power - 132KV or 400KV
There generally arnt really ranges, there are distinct levels, like EHV is either 132, or 400KV, not say 217KV, and this is controlled by the electric grid system - they have to be uniform throughout the country - connect an odd voltage to the grid and the levels wil equalise (and possibly blow something up as it does it). Simular with HV - though thats more down to the local network operator and can vary - for example, in Liverpool there is a 6.6KV ring and over the water in birkenhead the equivalent is 6VK
AC Levels tend to be:
LV - 110V, 220V, 240V, 415V and some less common ones a bit higher
MV - 3KV, 6KV (or 6.6KV)
HV - 6KV, 11KV, 33KV, 132KV
EHV - 132KV, 400KV
As far as power distribution is concerned 275kV/400kV and 11kV.
i think in the uk it just jumps to HV after LV.
although some still refer to MV systems as being >1000V
EHV is 132kV and 400kV I think.
I suppose the question is what do you want to know for?
ie what is it in relation to?
