I need a valve that will quickly turn on and off and handle a large amount of air pressure ... suggestions?

I need kind of "trigger valve" but I know that's not the correct term. It needs to handle about 500 psi on the supply side.

Answer:
A butterfly valve will give you fast. We made some "water cannons" for a theme park water ride (it is where the cannon ball "hits" the water after being "fired" from the pirate ship)

The cannon on the ship is a strobe light, smoke machine and a blast of air released by a butterfly valve.

The cannon ball hit is a 4' diameter pipe about 1 foot below the surface. An air actuated butterfly valve supplies the air from a 5-10 gallon tank.

The pressures we were working with were lower than what you are asking, about 60-100 psi.

For higher pressures you might want to try a ball valve, or a stop-**** valve.

With all three types of valve, fully closed to fully open take 1/4 turn of the handle.

EDIT.

It seems that some kind of filter messed with my answer. The bleeped word is another name for rooster. That is really what it is called.
i work with 300 psi all day. we use schedule 80 piping. why not try that, or at least ask what it's limits are. you can also order parts from a grainger supply book or if it's a company, you can go through mcmaster-carr
Don't you hate it when the software censors a perfectly innocent industrial term like "chickenvalve"?

Here's what I came up with: (links below)
1) pilot valve
2) fast acting two way solenoid valve
3) Pneuaire solenoid valves

Of course, I'm assuming that at 500 psi you're dealing with small pipe or tubing like 1/4npt. You also don't say how you want to control it. Most common is an electrical signal.
The opening (A 90° turn of a 'Ball' valve or a 'Butterfly' valve will not be affected by a ΔP of 500psi). They are very robust and will give a good shut-off. (The correct pressure rating must also be observed).
