What does a metric scale of 1:125 represent?

I have a drawing that I need to take measurments from, and the drawing scale is 1:125. Does that mean 1 drawing unit (perhaps mm) is equal to 1.25m? There are no dimensions on the drawing that I can use as a reference to set the scale on my plan wheel. It is for estimating purposes, so it has to be correct!

Answer:
It means that the drawing is to scale but 125 times smaller than if you held the object.
So if you measure with a ruler on the drawing and something is 1mm then it is really 125mm's or 0.125 meters or 12.5cm.

Multiply all measurements done by a ruler on the drawing by 125 and you will be fine.
If it is to scale and plotted on the correct paper size, then 1 mm on the drawing would be 125 mm (or 0.125 m) in real life.
