basically, all engineering fields are related to basic science (physic, chemistry etc) it depends on what engineering field are you into. in the same engineering field, you might practice certain knowledge more than other. e.g. civil engineering. a struactural civil engineer's works involve lots of physics, while a concrete civil engineer will have to know the chemistry part of material to produce a good concrete.
Engineering is considered by many to be a very lucrative profession. Ofcourse it depends on what kind of an Engineer you are at what point in time, and in what country. For example being an Oil and Gas Engineer in a country with ample natural resources can be very lucrative. The same profession in a country with not so many natural resources will not be as lucrative. I guess Engineers are in demand so they also tend to move from one country to another.
