AC Power to USB power converting?

How do you do it? Are there any books or websites that explain it?

I want to convert several household items that use an AC power cord, to instead, use a computer USB cord for power.

For example... I want to convert a hair straightener to work with a USB cord.

Answer:
A hair straightener is too powerful for a USB. Most things are.
USB is 5 VDC, household is 120 VAC. a hair straightener needs at least 500 W to straighten the **** out of your hair. For USB power that would mean 100 A of current.crazy stuff

usb cables are far too flimsy to handle any real power and it would be ridiculously dangerous and a sure fire way to start a fire trying that **** out
