The glycol solution is then pumped through a large tank filled with a water solution that freezes due to the cold glycol. The ice is then used as a cold source for air conditioning during the day.
Note that thermal storage is not as efficient as a normal chiller system due to running at colder temperatures and the losses from freezing and melting the ice. The advantage of a thermal storage system is to shift the chiller run time to off peak hours. This is usually only useful if high demand charges are levied for running during peak hours.
