What is the work of computer engineer?
Answer:
I manage a team of computer, electrical, optical, and software engineers. In general, the computer engineers have training that includes both software and hardware. In my group, they normally work on the design of controllers. They design the digital electronics and write the low-level control software. In general, most computer engineers work at the boundary between hardware and software. This includes FPGA work.
The electrical engineers in my group generally are focused on detailed electronic design, particularly analog and RF. The software folks generally write code and do not do any hardware design (though one is starting to do some FPGA design).
Computer engineer covers a wide range of disciplines.
However it would entail being able to design computer circuitry, assemble and deploy computer systems, program, debug and generally cross the hardware/software domain.
Well the ones I use to work with configured the systems to the specifications of the clients. Meaning they made and loaded computers with the specific software the client wanted all other software was removed from the systems. They also critiqued the software to match what the client wanted it to do. Also made sure the software worked. Also dealt with the hardware. This was back in the mid 90's I am sure thing have change somewhat nowdays
I have a degree in computer engineering, and most engineers with this type of degree work on design and programming of electronic devices. From medical equipment to self-guided vehicles. There is a wide range of work available to someone with this degree.
