Why is the frequency of 50Hz used in a power system?
Answer:
It is just a historical fact. Back before there were standards the large companies in the US and Europe that produced the first power systems chose either 50 or 60 Hz for their supplies. Each chooser believed they had the right answer.
By now with whole continents generating at one or the other and houses full of motorized appliances that care which frequency they are on there is no way the two values will be harmonized. Just live with it,
50 Hz is used mostly in Europa. There is just a slight flicker so the Us raised there's up to 60 HZ . In some military they use 400 HZ.
50Hz are above is needed so that electric lights do not to appear to flicker to the human eye. The United States uses 60Hz (was easier for time keeping is the rumor) while Europe and most places elsewhere choose 50Hz.
