High voltage batteries?
i need information on high voltage batteries or chains of batterys in series, effects that they can produce and if any batterys exist in commercial production exceeding 100 volts
what happens if you connect 2000 9 volt batterys together?
do you get a stable open air dc arc at 18 kv?
Answer:
Back in the days of portable vacuum tube radios some pretty high voltage batteries were made, I don't know what the highest is now, I'd guess high voltage batteries are not too common anymore. Something to consider, the last time I bought a 9V battery it cost more than a dollar. I'm sure one could get a pretty big neon sign transformer for far less that $2000, leaving enough left over for high voltage diodes and capacitors. even if you want portability, an inverter running off lower voltage batteries would probably be more economical.
"do you get a stable open air dc arc at 18kv?" I get a stable arc at somewhere around 24vdc with my TIG welder, of course that is 50+ amps in ionized argon, not open air, and starting the arc is quite another matter.
I know you can use hundreds of capacitors in series to get 18kv they do this with rail guns. You can do over 100volts with lead acid batteries they do this often for homes.
As for 2000 9volt batteries i wonder myself
