You have to use the code book relevant for the area you are using the cable. For the US is the NEC, for the UK its the IEE 16th edition.

There are a number of factors to consider - the type of cable, the length of run, the ambient temperature, the method of install (conduit, duct, tray etc)
Take a look on the page below. There is table for speakers in combination with the current.
For power and lighting, you use Section 310.15 of the NEC. For flexible cords and cables, you use Section 400.5 of the NEC. For fixture wires, you use Section 402.5 of the NEC.
