There is no free lunch. Nuclear power gives us radioactive waste, coal power gives us pollution, gas & oil also produce pollution when burned, and all of these require mining/drilling activities.
Hydroelectric is clean and pollution free, but it causes severe alterations of river ecosystems, and in the US all rivers with hydroelectric potential have already been used (ie Hoover dam, TVA system).
Solar power is clean, but is not yet dependable enough or powerful enough for industrial use. Wind power is also clean, but produces annoying "whoose" sounds as blades turn. It also takes up a lot of landscape. Also, mice and rodents have found that wind turbines are a safe refuge from predators. They discovered this because of the high number of dead eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons that can be found at wind turbine sites.
The problem with most of these is that no one wants these facilities located near their home. (Even Ted Kennedy objected to wind turbines being put in 5 miles out into the ocean, because it was his favorite place to sail.)
