Is going back to get a civil engineering degree the right choice?
- I love math
- I would love how to use math to solve practical problems
- I'm very detail-oriented
- I'm not into "business" i.e., focusing on maximizing profits and the bottom line, etc.
- I like working on creating tangible things
- I like solving problems that have a solid answer that you can prove
- I'm fascinated by buildings, bridges, other structures and would love to learn the "math" behind them
- I'm not really interested in the sciences like chemistry and biology as my primary focus
- I'm somewhat of an introvert, esp in terms of what is required for marketing/PR, but I don't mind working in groups and presenting, I just don't want that to be a primary duty
- I'm a fast learner on computers
Does it sound like civil engineering (specifically structural) would be a good fit for me?
Answer:
I think Civil or Mechanical Engineering would be a good fit for you. Structural sounds like a slam dunk (and they are typically Civils). Anyway, you sound like a natural. You should go for it.
Um YES lol
that is all i will say.
Just know that it will take alot of hard work.
(I have alot of friends that are Civil Engineers and I have my background in Mechanical Engineering)
I'll give you a bit of insight here...the eng chap who also liked math was thinking in some abstract terms one day and came up with a idea based on a mathematical manipulation..well guess what the outcome was? a electromechanical donut that you slide the human body thru. its name ? magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)...looking at the body in slices of one mil with no invasive surgery! absolutly fantastic!! all based on math. so follow that and apply it to solving problems that help others to heal. i suffered a stroke that was located and treated within 3 days. and i'm alive today
do you like physics? for structures its mostly Newtonian. If you do like them, then go for it! If you don't, don't worry, maybe you just never had the appropriate teacher. Physics are great :)
Sounds like engineering could be good for you, but certain aspects of CE requires an extensive knowledge of chemistry especially when working with concrete. Environmental engineering (a sub-discipline of CE) also requires knowledge of chem and bio. Of course if you know you want to do structures, then you'll be dealing mostly with advanced math and physics. Good luck attaining your CE degree.
yes i say go back get a degree if your up for it.it sounds like u like love math like me who going into mathematics .listen do what your heart tells you .its your life .your choice .your success if you need further information or gaudiness visit my profile
