Usually 3d modeling is used in mechanics fields.
Mostly design mechanics ( solid ).
In this way you can see how well your design is in different situations.
But we got two kinds of modeling program.
first are programs like solidwork, catia, ... that are actually used to build a model
second are programs like adams, nastran & patran, ansys,... that are used to calculate static and dynamic behavior of the model created.
