This is the ranking according to the jobs I have seen advertised for. There is always construction and as firms look to reduce costs, they look first to the managers to properly schedule, oversee, and report on construction activities.

As more construction and growth takes place, there is more need for tansportation. Also, the interstate just turned 50 years old a little while ago. Since that time traffic volumes have more than quadrupled.

Space limitations and calls for more sustainable construction have greatly increased the need for well trained structural engineers.

As populatioins grow, they need to get fresh water and get rid of the "not so fresh" water. The environmental impacts of runoff and stormwater are also hot issues now.

Everything we do is on the ground. There has to be someone who understands the reaction within the soils for this to take place.

In short, any part of civil engineering is in high demand. There is no shortage of demand, only qualified people to fill the positions.
