I heard there's a different type of DC current coming out that has the advantages of AC as well.?

What's the name of that and what else could it do as well, what are some of the advantages of it?

Answer:
Sorry, t'ain't no sech animole. Off and on, people have touted EHVDC (Extra High Voltage DC) for power transmission. While the line losses are less, the problem is still the economical production of really high DC voltages, and then reducing them at the consumer.
ac or dc.. thats it, nothing new
