Is an engineering degree from UCL any good?
Answer:
The reality of having a degree from a certain school is no better than any other school. There are a few acceptions to that for Engineering, such a MIT and a few others, but if you are smart enough you will get in. Also, having a degree from one of the top ten schools might get you in the door at some potential employer a little faster, but does not automatically give you that job.
Going to a certain school will not guarantee you a successful future. If you get good grades and are determined to do well at your engineering job, that will make you a success. Its not where you get the degree its what you do with it that counts.
The difference between UCL and Stanford would probably be the difference between being hired by a small-to-midsized company and a Fortune 500 company. The competition is different. The starting salaries are different.
But a Chemical Engineering degree is a very good, solid degree regardless of where you obtain it. It will qualify you for an entry level engineering position.
Regarding finance: I don't know a lot about finance careers, but I would assume that you would have to prove some skill in that area to get hired into a finance position. Chem E degree on the resume probably doesn't qualify (unless your uncle owns the company). Add an MBA, and then you've got something. Within a company, it is often possible to morph to secondary disciplines. So if you started in engineering and demonstrated good skill and work ethic, you might find an opportunity to transfer to finance/marketing/accounting. rgb
get a deg in chem engg and do mba with finance as an elective.
I prefer Andrex myself, it's softer and more absorbent
