Is there a limit to how tall a building can be built?

If so, how high is it? What is the limit? Is it materials, techniques, or physics?

Answer:
The biggest limit seems to be how to get people to the top floors easily enough that you can rent those floors. If you put in enough elevators to make everyone happy the entire interior becomes just a collection of elevator shafts. And the lobby becomes a place where people crowd in to get their elevator to go to work or to leave work.
no limit.whell i guess the limit is the current technology
well...if a structure gets to a certain height it becomes very unstable, which i suppose falls under the category of physics
Almost certainly there is for now at least. And materials is the #1 issue. At some very high (and relatively narrow) point wind just whips the top around mercilessly and no one would want to be inside!

But if you build a pyramid with a big enough base?
That is the challenge that many builders have been doing for centuries.
The ratio of base area to hight at one point hits a critical situation where one has to increase the base area for the structure to still be stable even under high wind pressure.

Theoretically there is no limit to hight if certain parameters are met.

1) The lower part has to amply support the weight of the structure above in order to not collapse.

2) The base area has to linearly increase regarding the height. Suppose the ratio is 1 to 5.... a 1km square base should then support a hight of 5km of structure without the upper structure going into self-destructive oscillations.

It is is all of the above - materials, engineering and physics.
