If i where to get a job working offshore on a oil rig 28 on 28 off, and later they ask?

me to go to another country to work, would they fly me back to the USA for my 28 days off or would they tell me to just live within the border of the country next to the offshore oil rig, it may seam like a stupid question but some people do have familys, what do you think would take place, i would like to here from someone who is now working or has worked on a offshore platform, thanks so much for your time.

They are not going to give you 28 on and off. What they will do is negotiate a per diem contract with you. You need to figure out what you want/ are worth to them.

Typically on large construction sites, depending on your location you will get $2,000 to $3,000 a month for living expenses (tax free for the first 12 months, after that uncle sam gets his cut.)

Per Diem costs are a function of what the cost of living where you are going, Italy would be pretty high (food is great), Malaysia (Don't eat the chicken feet, but the Shark Fin soup is excellent) would be less. The degree of flexibility a company will have on the amount awarded would depend on what you can do for them. If you can pick up a super job in the states, they'll give you more to go and vice versa.

Now not to forget your question, travel home. Usually the industry standard is every three weeks, I've been offered trips to Hawaii every 2 weeks in the past when working in the pacific. Negotiable ..

Don't forget that you will NOT be paid when you are not working (including trip time) so make sure you get a minimum guarantee of 50 or 60 hrs a week, since where you may be going, there may not be much to do other than work.

Personally, I prefer to stay home with my family but for short term, you could rake in some cabbage.

Good luck on your decision
My nick is cool for U! lol.
Ask you employer. I'm sure different rig companies have different rules for thier job.
I would suppose it depends on the company, how much they want you and how much money the company is making (At the moment I'm listening to a TV show talking about how high gas prices are)

How about you ask them?
