Why hissing sound is heard near a high volatge electrical transmision line?

Answer:
This is corona being produced as the air is ionized by the high voltage
Its a WARNING to keep away.(lol)

Ok, it is due to the passage of high current on the wire & the interference of atmospheric condition. U cannot hear the sound when it is insulated.
High voltage can "bleed" off the line under some conditions (like high humidity.) What you are hearing is the auroral effects of electrons leaking off the wire into the air. You hear a more prononced effect from things like Tessla coils.

You can also sometimes smell "garlic" near high voltage lines because of the formation of ozone from the high voltage.

Most of the time neither effect is pronounced, but sometimes it is...

Did you check for snakes? they are attracted to electricity.

(Ok, just kidding)
