What is constructed wetland? is it effective enough for water/wastewater treatment? thx in advance?

Constructed wetland wouldn't be effective enough for wastewater treatment, but it is for just normal water run-off treatment.
There are constructed wetlands that are being used for very small systems, like a home or small neighborhood. They have also been used as a polishing step after conventional treatment. The problem is that they can not be used for large or even medium size systems or systems with any unusual components.

The wetland are in common use for wastewater treatment in cities of thirdworld countries till that day . They are economic solution for the purpose and effective to some extent but create bad smell all around .
