How do you describe an engineer?

I think engineer is the person who does everything in balance. he/she might not know everything, but should find a way to get things going on. Not too much, not less, just what is needed...

Answer:

An engineer tries to be pragmatic and practical. We figure out how to make theoretical science work in the real world. Above all, it has to be an economic solution, or it is of no practical value
An engineer performs all the activities or gets involved in all the activities of a company that employs him. e;g.,

Design of products
Testing products
Writing design specifications
Generating material for and making presentations
Market analysis
Marketing
Interviewing candidates for employment
Writing technical papers and memos
Generate testing specifications and test procedures
Perform fault diagnosis on systems and products.
Participate in design review meetings or panels
Develop and evaluate prototype designs
Develop project schedules and manpower requirements
Participate in company business as managers, many times becoming top executives

And others ----- the list goes on and on. You get the idea, they get involved in almost every facet of company business, as I stated previously
Wikipedia says:

"An engineer is someone who is trained or professionally engaged in a branch of engineering. Engineers use creativity, technology, and scientific knowledge to solve practical problems."

I completely agree. At least that is what I feel like I do as an engineer, use technology, science, and creativity to solve problems.
My professor said " engineering is the art of re-arranging the forces and materials of the world for the better mankind."
A very clever guy or girl.
Someone who knows enough about the why to figure out the what and the how. On time and under budget.
