Is it common to use threaded pipes in the oil and gas industries?

Max pressure is 900psig and max pipe is 2"

Answer:
It is not a common practice to use threaded connection in 900 psig service even though pipe size is only 2 inch. and specifically not prefered in oil and gas industries . It is common practice to go for either welded connections or flanged connection . The reasons are
1. possible deteoration of threads after some use leading to leakage and resulting hazards
2. Heavier pipe thickess requirement for threaded joints leading to higher cost of piping.
3. API/ANSI B31.3 /ANSI 31.1 / ASME SEC- VIII ETC all these codes restricts use of threaded joints beyond certain pressure and service temperature irrespective of service fluid for unreliabilty .
4. Threaded joints fail under thermal differential expansion as well as fluctuating load .
All these limitations restricted use of threaded joints at low pressure and temperature conditions only in all industries including oil and gas.
