My ac unit leaks?
Answer:
YES--ITS NOT A LEAK HOWEVER--ITS CODENSING THE MOISTURE IN THE AIR- ITS NORMAL.
while it's running, water condenses inside, in the cooling section.
typically there's a trough that leads it outside -- frequently to be dispersed by the outside fan.
but sometimes it drips.
and when the trough gets messed up -- rusty, it can drip inside.
if it's working, that is, it's cooling, then it's probably not leaning refrigerant, which is the only other liquid possibility.
so, I'm guessing it's water.
If the substance it is "leaking" is water, then it's just doing its job, and there's nothing wrong. When the air is cooled, it cannot hold as much dissolved moisture, so the moisture condenses out of the air, forming droplets on the walls of the AC unit. You can observe the same effect on a glass of ice water sitting on the table.
You are 100% correct, it is the same concept as your car air conditioner, it also leaks condensation.
yeah just like my dehumidifier condenses the water then most of the water ends up on the floor
All AC units "leak".
The unit uses a combination of gasses, along with tubing configurations, to cool through the use of evaporation.
The result is cooler, drier air inside and hot air on the exhaust side. In the middle (the meat of the unit) condensation occurs, causing puddles, which follow the designed pitch of the window unit, draining out the back.
This is the "leak" you experience.
They should leak water out of the back not the front. If it's the front you need to level your ac unit or find the problem.
