Do all pencil sharpeners require the pencil to be turned clockwise?

Answer:
in australia they turn the other way due to the rotation of the earth, like water down a plug hole
Probably. Maybe it's a right-handed thing...
It depends what way the small blade in the sharpener is facing. Obviously if it is facing the non-conventional way (anti-clockwise) then the pencil will have to be turned anti-clockwise to sharpen!!
Yes.. I think so! I had a sharpener once that had to be turned counterclockwise ( I think that was a factory defect sharpener) and its really really hard to sharpen the pencil. I think it can damage my wrist if I continue to use it! hahahaha
Whatjuthink? turning pencils clockwise when sharpening is much much more easier
It would seem so as it is the way the blade faces that determines the direction. All the sharpeners seem to have the blades the same way. It might be possible to convert a sharpener or have one specially made,I don't know.
The direction to turn the pencil depends on the way the blade inside is facing. As the majority of people are right handed and turning the pencil clockwise is the most natural direction to turn it, is why the sharpeners are made that way. Bit hard for left handed people but you cant have everything.
Not in our house. Both our kids are left handed... So we have left handed sharpeners
What an intriguing question..

There must be some for the `lefties` i would think.h
Boston brand sharpeners don't require the pencil to be turned at all rather they are stationary and the blade rotate around the pencil clockwise.
Rather like avoidingtheironing's answer, two of our children are left-handed (as is my wife's mother) so we have all sorts of left handed stuff around.
Especially scissors - for when they were little and at school. For all of us right-handers out there, the reason that you can't use scissors in your left hand is not because you are clumsy etc, it is because of the positioning of the blades. Look at some scissors in your right hand and you will realise that one blade is "on top" of the other. Move this into your left hand and it isn't. Hence the scissors won't work. Thus actual left-handed scissors are available.
The same priciple applies to pencil sharpeners.
it depends on the position of the razor
I never thought about that
there r sharpners tosharpen in anticlockwise direction.
yes
Because of the angle of the blade the inventor was right handed
No. On my one I turn the handle clockwise so that is the same as turning the pencil anti-clockwise.
No only if you are poor. If your rich like me you have a machine and just turn the handle to get a perfectly sharpened pencil. Work harder, earn lots of money and join all the wedged people.
Good luck.
,
of course they do as pecil sharpeners are for right hand dominant people
Yes! unless you get a special one made specifically for left handers.
The desk-mounted variety do not require the pencil to be turned at all. The smaller ones are all clockwise, as far as I know.
yes!
Hmmmmmmmm, I'm left handed and had to think about that! I sharpen pencils right handed so they do go clockwise. But what about in Australia?? lol. I'm sure they make them for left handers though in which case I would think they'd go the other way.
Only if you want to sharpen the pencil.
I THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE FACE OF THE EDGE OF THE RAZOR AND THE MOVEMENT MUST BE OPPOSITETHE RAZOR EDGE .
No, the desk mounted one we used to have held the pencil still and you rotated a handle.
As the cutting surface was a pair of knurned cones, the handle could be turned in either direction.
you can get left-handed pencil sharpeners that turn anti-clockwise
I think you can get them for left handed people, which would turn anti clockwise, problem then is finding left handed pencils.
no you can get a pencil sharpener that has a handle you turn the handle the pencil stays still
dave o thank you for giving me a laugh beforei go to sleep!
and david p what is knurned? i like that word!!

i never realised there were left handed pencoil sharpeners! never really thought about why they all turned the way they do... we usually use a stanley knife cos all our pencils are always broken inside and knife blade works better...
No! not all pencil sharpeners have to be turned clock wise, The majority of them aredue to the large amout of right handed people being the dominant user.
Left handed pencil sharpeners are more rare but are now becomming more required.
You can Hold a Left-Handed sharpener in your right hand. With the pencil still in your left hand, just insert into sharpening hole and twist the pencil counter-clockwise, the natural sharpening motion.
