Air extraction?

AM MIXING PAINT IN A ROOM 2M WIDE 1M DEEP 2.5M HIEGHT AND NEED TO KNOW FAN TYPE / DUTY AND REGULATIONS IN U.K ANY HELP APPRECIATED

Answer:
A 5 cu m room with 2 sq m floor area is very small for a paint mix room, unless you are talking about small paint volumes, and/or low organic solvent paint.
Organic paint solvents smell at very low concentrations, they are toxic at medium concentrations and explosive at high concentrations. You must ensure that the room, access to the room, and the room ventilation comply with UK Health and Safety legislation on all three. You also need to ensure the ventilation system exhaust doesn't cause odour problems on site or with your neighbours.
The paint room should have minimum 20 air change per hour. Your room volume is 1 x 2.5 x 2= 5 cubic meter. so fan capacity required = 20 x 5 = 100 cubic meter/ hr.(min)
This is as per occupational health and safety guide lines.
You may use a wall mounted exhaust fan of capacity above 100 cubicmeter/hr.
Just to add to what you have already found out. A small fan will make a lot of noise so go for a bigger model that runs at a slower speed and takes a larger size duct. Make sure that the discharge point is in a safe position. I E not near a boiler flue or other inlet and is not causing a nuisance to other people or blowing over a common way.
Just another note, if the room is sealed make sure you have an intake filter/louvre to allow air in at a point opposite the fan. Also some paint vapours are heavier than air so it is good practice to have some extraction at ground level by running a duct down from the fan.
Mount the fan outside the room unless you are getting a flameproof type. The same goes for the starter. Any lights in the room need to be flameproof aswell, unless you can cut a section out of the roof, glaze it and fit the light on top of the glass.
