What's the use of penbritin?

Answer:
All of the same things for which ampicillin is indicated (that's all it is, afterall). You won't find it in the U.S. by that name, but it's sold in Canada, the UK and elsewhere as Penbritin.

The "standard" list includes

Ear, nose and throat infections
Bacterial infection of the middle ear (otitis media)
Sinusitis
Bronchitis
Pneumonia
Infections of the urinary tract
Gonorrhoea
Gynaecological infections
Infection of the blood (septicaemia or blood poisoning)
Abdominal infections (peritonitis)
Bacterial infection of the heart valves and the lining surrounding the heart (bacterial endocarditis) (and if they suspect this, they'll give it to you prior to dental work!)
Meningitis
Typhoid and paratyphoid fever
Stomach and intestinal infections
