Is fiberglass a good material for violin cases?
Answer:
Very good - my violin case is fiberglass and it's very protective, however at the same time, it's not completely rigid, so there is little chance of it smashing into smitherines if you drop it! I've had my case for about 7 or 8 years now, I've dropped it loads of times, and my violin is absolutely fine. If I were ever to get a new case, I would certainly get a fiberglass one.
Don't waste your money on those polystyrene ones - they're fine for things like Skylarks, as they are fine for carrying a violin around in, however they will offer little decent protection if you were to drop your case for example - they are simply not sturdy enough.
I hope this helps, and just ask if you have any other violin queries,
Andy :-)
