Can I use electrical tape as a belt on my van de graaff generator?

I know that it's supose to be diaelectric but some websites say don't use black rubberbands becouse they could have conductive properties....but I don't know if electrical tape is good.If your anwering please conduct a test or something on your vdg and tell me if it works.Thank :-)

Electric tape is fine electrically, but it will stretch out and not work very well mechanically.
